The chief of Nahinso, Nana Addo Boaman, was arrested over the weekend for undertaking road construction repairs in his community without permission.

According to sources, the chief took it upon himself to repair the roads in his community due to the persistent flooding caused by sand winning activities in the area.

Despite repeated complaints to the district assembly, no action had been taken to address the issue, prompting the chief to take matters into his own hands.

The chief’s actions were seen as a desperate attempt to find a solution to the long-standing problem that has plagued his community for years. However, his efforts were met with resistance from authorities, that is the district assembly, who deemed his actions as illegal.

Social media users have taken to various platforms to express their outrage and disbelief at the arrest. “Because of noko fio dem go chop, they’ve arrested a chief. If it was Otumfuor anka. Let me hold my peace,” wrote one user.

Many questioned the logic behind the arrest: “Aarh so why arrest if he’s constructing the road ?? Ghana paa we have a long way to go”

Some pointed out the hypocrisy of the situation: “Why haven’t they arrested the ones responsible for cleaning the city? Nkwasia country sayaaaaaaaaaa! I think democracy came to early for blacks”

Others defended the government’s actions: “You can’t construct a major road without seeking validation from the government. The road no be your own property. Ghanaians dey jump into conclusion dodo. Less research but cho cho cho citizens”

But many more were critical of the government’s inaction: “You take so much from the populace in taxes, neglect your responsibilities as a government and yet you apprehend an individual for taking up your responsibilities”

Some even compared Ghana to other countries: “Some laws in Ghana bi nansis, even when you want to cover gutter leading to ur house so can drive home you have to go for permit and the stress and money to wl spend hmm Am told Nigerian the citizen can construct road and name it. If is not true then I stand to be corrected”

Many called for a rethink of the laws: “Ah wait o but how do you arrest someone trying to fix the problem for his people even though he don’t have ‘permission’; There are a lot of prominent people who can construct roads in the communities, but due to this kind of law they stay idle to watch the government to do so, whereas the government cannot do all the works in the country. I think this kind of law needs a rethink.”
