Showbiz analyst Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng has voiced her frustration regarding the fallout between gospel musician Ohemaa Mercy and her former publicist, KOKA, which ultimately led to his arrest.
During a recent discussion on UTV’s United Showbiz monitored by News & Vibes, Vida expressed her disappointment in Ohemaa Mercy’s decision to involve law enforcement after KOKA allegedly threatened her life.
According to Vida, the situation could have been managed without the police’s involvement, particularly in an industry like showbiz, where criticism and emotional challenges are common.
She emphasised that public figures must develop a thick skin to handle negative comments and criticism.
Reflecting on KOKA’s outburst, Vida suggested that emotions had likely played a significant role in his behaviour, leading him to say things he shouldn’t have.
Despite the unfortunate turn of events, Vida acknowledged KOKA’s dedication and loyalty to Ohemaa Mercy’s brand. She pointed out that Ohemaa Mercy had trusted him with managing her highly successful event, the Tehillah Experience, and securing sponsors.
This, she noted, highlighted KOKA’s commitment to his work, even though he could be outspoken at times. Vida stressed how rare it is to find such dedicated individuals in the entertainment industry who are genuinely invested in the growth of a brand.
What disturbed Vida most was the financial aspect of the dispute. It was reported that Ohemaa Mercy had recognised owing KOKA money, which made the decision to involve the police even more troubling.
Vida believed that this matter could have been settled through a private discussion rather than escalating it to the authorities.
In her view, the situation should have been resolved in a more civil manner, preserving the working relationship and avoiding unnecessary public attention.
“I’m truly disappointed in Ohemaa Mercy for having KOKA arrested. In our line of work, you can’t afford to be emotional because it’s a public space where people will talk about you. You’ll be criticized, and sometimes, those close to you might feel bad. But once you train yourself not to be emotional, what people say won’t affect you. I believe emotions got the better of KOKA, which led to him saying things he shouldn’t have.”
“Yes, KOKA can be loud and opinionated, but deep down, his love for the job and dedication to what he does is unquestionable. In this industry, it’s hard to find people like him who are genuinely committed to helping a brand grow. Helpers and investors are rare, so when you find someone like KOKA, who’s willing to work hard and secure sponsors, you don’t treat them lightly.”
“I believe this could have been handled with a simple conversation. Involving the police wasn’t necessary.”
