A horrifying incident has come to light in Ogun State, where a 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and filmed by eight teenagers.
The suspects, who are between 16 and 19 years old, were arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on November 15, 2024.
According to reports, the victim was raped and filmed without her consent in the Ijebu-Mushin area of Ogun State.
The suspects then threatened to post the video on social media and blackmailed her into having sex with them again.
The victim eventually found the courage to report the matter to the NSCDC Divisional Office at Ijebu-Mushin, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The NSCDC has commenced an investigation into the incident and has remanded the suspects for 60 days pending the outcome of the investigation. The victim has also been taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment.
This disturbing incident highlights the growing concern of sexual violence against young girls in Nigeria.
The authorities must take swift and decisive action to ensure that justice is served and that the suspects are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Additionally, there is a need for increased awareness and education on consent, sexual violence, and the importance of respecting women’s rights.
“The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command Headquarters, Abeokuta, has arrested one Matthew Omotayo, male, 17 years and seven other suspected teenagers for alleged conspiracy, sexual abuse, unlawful sexual intercourse, exploitation and assault of a 14-year-old minor (name withheld) at the Ijebu-Mushin, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State on Friday, November 15, 2024.”
