Why Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II is Grateful to Asantehene

Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, Vice President of the National House of Chiefs, has expressed deep gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for playing a decisive role in preventing his deskinment more than a decade ago.

He revealed that the Asantehene’s intervention was instrumental in securing his continued reign as chief.

During a visit to Manhyia Palace on February 26, 2025, the Buipewura acknowledged Otumfuo’s unwavering support, noting that the Asantehene had always been a pillar of strength for him.

He recounted how, at a critical moment in his leadership, Otumfuo assured him that he would remain on the skin, a reassurance that proved crucial to his survival as a chief.

He described the Asantehene as his “God on earth” and expressed his profound appreciation by bringing an Imam to offer prayers for Otumfuo’s long life, recognising his immense contribution to Ghana’s traditional leadership.

Beyond his gratitude for past support, the Buipewura also used the occasion to thank Otumfuo for his blessings, which he believes contributed to his victory in the November 2024 National House of Chiefs election.

His near-destoolment dates back to 2010 when he defied an appeal from the late Yagbon-Wura Tuntunba Borisa Sulemana Jakpa II to reverse the removal of Mono-Wura Akwasi Piesie.

In response, the Gonja Traditional Council deskinned him for insubordination, but a Tamale High Court later overturned the decision, with an appeal affirming the ruling.

His tribute to Otumfuo underscores the Asantehene’s far-reaching influence and his role as a key figure in preserving stability within traditional leadership structures in Ghana.
