Veteran Nollywood star Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has opened up about his discomfort with being referred to as a “legend.”
In a candid interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask, RMD shared that he sees the term as misleading, and he doesn’t think it accurately reflects his current status in the industry.
According to the actor, while he respects veterans like Olu Jacobs and Pete Edochie and believes they rightfully deserve the “legend” label, he feels that he is not yet in that category.
RMD explained that whenever people refer to him as a “legend,” it makes him feel like he’s being placed in the same group as retirees, a space he’s not ready to inhabit.
“I think all this ‘legend’ talk is a bit of a scam,” he said. He further added that seeing himself as a legend would prematurely box him into the idea of someone who is winding down their career.
RMD believes that true legends, like Jacobs and Edochie, have paved the way for actors like him and should be the ones celebrated with such a title.
Rather than accepting the label, RMD prefers to focus on his ongoing work and contributions to Nollywood, distancing himself from the notion of retirement. For him, the idea of being called a legend simply doesn’t fit his current journey in the entertainment world.
