Media personality Afia Schwarzenegger has set social media ablaze with explosive claims that Kennedy Agyapong was the mastermind behind the arrest of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako—widely known as Chairman Wontumi.
In a dramatic video posted to Instagram, Afia mocked Wontumi’s recent legal troubles while pointing fingers at fellow NPP heavyweight Kennedy Agyapong. She suggested that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) acted under influence from Agyapong’s inner circle, following a reported rift over support for Vice President Dr. Bawumia in the NPP flagbearership contest.
Wontumi’s arrest came on May 27, 2025, shortly after he was questioned by the CID in Accra over allegations of illegal mining and water contamination. EOCO’s ongoing investigation reportedly also ties him to a $55 million financial fraud connected to his Akonta Mining company and dealings with EXIM Bank. His Kumasi residence had been raided days earlier, on May 23, an action he believes was part of a setup.
Afia’s video referenced a social media post claiming that Felix Tetteh, campaign manager for Kennedy Agyapong, was instrumental in pushing for Wontumi’s arrest—an assertion that has further deepened the perceived cracks within the NPP.
The situation took a dramatic turn when key party figures, including NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong and former MP Titus Glover, marched to EOCO demanding answers. Wontumi reportedly collapsed during questioning and was taken to a hospital, intensifying calls that the arrest was politically motivated and orchestrated by enemies within.
Legal expert Clement Opoku Gyamfi also condemned the incident, labeling it a deliberate political setup, and accusing the NDC government of weaponizing state institutions.
Afia Schwarzenegger, meanwhile, used her platform to send a strong message to the youth, warning them not to be used as pawns in political games. She cautioned against blind loyalty to politicians who, according to her, often exploit supporters with petty cash while securing their own interests.
As tensions continue to rise, this unfolding drama highlights growing fractures within the ruling party ahead of the 2025 elections.
