Akwaaba UK CEO Denies Sabotage Allegations Amid Stonebwoy UK Tour Date Clash
The ongoing dispute between dancehall artist Stonebwoy and Akwaaba UK has intensified, as Dennis Tawiah, CEO of Akwaaba UK, firmly denied allegations of sabotage concerning Stonebwoy’s upcoming UK album tour scheduled for 8th March.
The controversy began when Stonebwoy’s manager, Chief Stylz, accused Akwaaba UK of deliberately scheduling their annual Independence Day concert on the same date, potentially undermining the musician’s plans.
During a heated phone-in session on Hitz FM, Tawiah and Chief Stylz engaged in a tense exchange over who booked the date first.
Chief Stylz claimed that Stonebwoy’s team had secured the 8th March slot back in October 2024.
However, Tawiah countered, insisting that Akwaaba UK had locked in their date long before Stonebwoy’s announcement.
“The Ghana Independence concert has been a fixture on our calendar since 1998. We booked the venue well in advance, and no changes will be made,” Tawiah declared. He added that Stonebwoy and his team only reached out in January 2025, well after Akwaaba UK’s plans were finalised. In a dramatic twist, Tawiah threatened to release evidence of conversations with Stonebwoy’s camp to prove his claims.
Despite acknowledging Akwaaba UK’s historical support for Ghanaian artists in the UK, Chief Stylz stood by his accusation, stating that his team always consults with Ghanaian organisers, which is how they learned of the date clash. However, Tawiah dismissed the notion of sabotage, maintaining that Akwaaba UK’s event remains a top priority due to its cultural significance and longstanding tradition.
Industry watchers note that such scheduling conflicts are common but can be mitigated through better communication and collaboration.
Tawiah echoed similar sentiments, expressing a willingness to work with Stonebwoy in the future, provided it does not interfere with established commitments.
As both events approach, the Ghanaian diaspora in the UK now faces a tough choice on 8th March. While tensions remain high, fans are hopeful that the two parties will find common ground in the future, strengthening the bond between Ghanaian music and its global audience.
