Ghanaian actress Ama K Abebrese has taken a firm stance against the elevation of men accused of abusing women, insisting that individuals with such histories have no place in top leadership roles. Her criticism surfaced on November 18, 2025, after she expressed frustration over the country’s willingness to entrust national responsibilities to men linked to allegations of sexual harassment or assault.

According to her, a nation committed to accountability would never hand influential positions to individuals with troubling records involving women. She believes such appointments send a dangerous signal that misconduct toward women carries little consequence and may even be overlooked when political or public influence is at stake.

Her comments intensified ongoing calls for stronger ethical standards and more thorough background checks for public officials, particularly in matters relating to gender-based misconduct.

The concerns resurfaced following two recent high-profile appointments: Kwasi Kyei Darkwah’s selection as Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Caribbean Region and Professor Ransford Gyampo’s appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority. Darkwah has previously battled rape allegations from over a decade ago, while Gyampo became widely known for his involvement in a “sex-for-grade” exposé that linked him to inappropriate behaviour involving female students.

Abebrese’s stance has added momentum to the growing demand for responsible leadership and zero tolerance for abuse against women.
