Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has made a passionate appeal to the United States to support Ghana’s economic development, urging American companies to invest in the country and help unlock its economic potential.
Speaking at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the Asantehene emphasized Ghana’s need for technical and industrial assistance to achieve economic independence. He highlighted the country’s abundant resources, cheap labor, and personnel, making it an attractive destination for investment.
The Asantehene’s call to action came during a courtesy visit from the American Consul General in Ghana, Elliot Fertik. He stressed that Ghana seeks a long-term partnership with the US, beyond political ties, focusing on education, technical training, and investment opportunities.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed his desire to see American companies invest in Ghana, add value to the country’s raw materials, and export finished products. This, he believes, will help Ghana achieve economic independence and reduce its reliance on foreign aid.
The American Consul General, Elliot Fertik, assured the Asantehene of his commitment to strengthening the Ghana-US relationship, encouraging travel, trade, and industry between the two nations.
It remains to be seen if the Asantehene’s appeal will be welcomed by many in Ghana and US, as both countries partner in the country’s economic development journey.
