The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has faulted Paramount Chiefs within Asante for what he described as a nonchalant attitude toward chieftaincy violations in parts of the Bono Region.
Addressing the Asanteman Council on April 20, 2026, Otumfuo expressed disappointment that paramount chiefs have remained silent while traditional authority is undermined in Asanteman jurisdictions.
“Why are our men sitting aloof for two people in Bono to misbehave. You are all waiting for Otumfuo to act. We are all silent. You want to protect your names,” the Asantehene said.
He contrasted the current posture with the conduct of past Asante leaders who risked their lives to defend the Kingdom’s image and heritage.
Otumfuo cited the sacrifices of Tweneboa Kodua, who gave himself up for execution to save Asante, and Nana Yaa Asantewaa, who led the War of the Golden Stool.
“Now we have all turned into women,” Otumfuo chastised, challenging the chiefs to show courage in protecting Asante’s traditional jurisdictions.
The Asantehene vowed to resist any attempt to block traditional authorities in Bono and Bono East from coming to Manhyia to pay homage.
He stressed that those areas remain part of Asanteman and that their allegiance to the Golden Stool is not negotiable.
