Ghanaian music powerhouse Black Sherif has revealed that he submitted entries for the 66th Grammy Awards but did not receive a nomination. The rapper had aimed for recognition in the Best African Music Performance and Best Global Album categories.
Speaking to Hitz FM, he remained unbothered by the omission, highlighting that his focus is firmly on creating music and connecting with his fans worldwide. He explained that while a nomination would have been gratifying, its absence does not shake his confidence or passion.
Black Sherif, whose debut album Iron Boy launched on April 3, 2025, has quickly become one of Ghana’s most streamed musical projects of the year. The album’s success has positioned him as a frontrunner for multiple honors at the upcoming 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, where he is particularly hopeful of securing the Artiste of the Year award.
He stressed that such accolades would primarily be for his fanbase, whose unwavering support has fueled his rise. His validation comes from the music itself and the impact it has on listeners.
Having previously won the Best International Flow at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, Black Sherif became only the second Ghanaian to clinch the honor after Sarkodie in 2019. Known for blending trap, drill, and highlife with emotionally charged lyrics, his music resonates deeply with audiences across Africa and beyond.
Despite the Grammy setback, Black Sherif remains confident in the global potential of Ghanaian music, insisting that the country’s industry is on a trajectory that will eventually command worldwide recognition.
