Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi, has made a significant commitment to help the traders affected by the devastating fire that recently destroyed the Adum BlueLight section of Kumasi’s Central Business District.
Speaking during a visit to the market, Acheampong pledged to fully fund the reconstruction of the area, pending approval from the Asantehene and local authorities.
The fire, which took place on March 21, 2025, left behind widespread damage, severely impacting the livelihoods of the traders who operated there.
Despite the tragedy, some traders have already erected temporary structures in an attempt to resume business.
In addition to his promise to rebuild, Acheampong also donated GHS 300,000 to the affected traders to help them recover from the loss.
He emphasized that while the temporary structures erected by traders may be holding up for now, they are not stable and do not provide long-term solutions.
He plans to consult with the Asantehene, who is currently abroad, as well as the Ashanti Regional Minister and other local authorities to get the necessary approval to proceed with the reconstruction project.
Acheampong assured the traders that, if the necessary clearances are granted, the reconstruction will take place within 12 months, ensuring that the market area is rebuilt with strong, modern infrastructure.
Acheampong’s pledge is a timely response to a devastating situation, and his efforts are seen as a crucial step toward helping restore normalcy to the affected traders in the area.
