Chairman Wontumi: I Have a License but I’ve Never Mined a Day in My Life

Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has dismissed allegations suggesting he is involved in illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.

Speaking during the NPP’s “Thank You” tour held in Kumasi, Wontumi directly addressed the rumours, insisting that there is absolutely no truth to them.

He urged the public to disregard such claims, stating that they are baseless and politically motivated.

Wontumi acknowledged that he holds a legal mining license, but was quick to clarify that he has never ventured into galamsey or any form of illegal mining.

He stressed that he has no interest in such practices and has no intention of engaging in them in the future.

Turning the spotlight on the opposition, Chairman Wontumi accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being the real culprits behind illegal mining.

He alleged that it is the NDC, not him or the NPP, that has a record of engaging in destructive and unlawful activities that harm the country.

His remarks appeared aimed at clearing his name and redirecting the galamsey narrative away from the NPP, placing the blame squarely on the shoulders of the opposition.
