Renowned Kumawood actress Christiana Awuni has harshly criticized Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his derogatory remarks directed at Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer.
Outrage was caused by Chairman Wontumi’s purportedly disparaging comments about Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, which included questions about her regional origins and implied that she was secretly married to Mr. Mahama.
Christiana Awuni attacked Chairman Wontumi in a recent appearance on Accra FM monitored by News & Vibes, accusing him of being tribalist and showing disdain for successful people.
She berated him for his careless remarks and said that his wealth gives him the confidence to say whatever he wants. She characterized Wontumi as lacking wisdom and showing no respect.
Awuni, who expressed support for Professor Opoku-Agyemang, cautioned Chairman Wontumi against carrying out any more attacks and threatened to take legal action if he did.
She threatened to make sure everyone in the nation heard about the two of them if he dared to say anything nasty about her. I’ll bring him to justice, and I’ll let him spend all of his money on legal counsel.”
Awuni’s strong position is in line with the increasing calls for Chairman Wontumi to issue a clear apology for his hurtful words.
