Dada KD Blasts Ghana’s Music Industry Over Poor Royalties for Artists

Dada KD: Politics Is No Longer Worth My Peace of Mind

Renowned Ghanaian highlife musician, Dada Kwakye Duah, widely known as Dada KD, has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the current state of music royalties in the country.

Speaking candidly in an interview on Accra FM with Nana Romeo monitored by News and Vibes, he outlined how the financial rewards for Ghanaian musicians remain among the lowest in the world.

Reflecting on the ongoing hardships of musicians, Dada KD questioned if this suffering is simply a result of fate, suggesting that if destiny is to blame, a change should be long overdue.

According to the musician, the root of the problem lies in a deep-seated cultural bias that has historically undermined music as a respectable and profitable career.

He recalled a time when even close family members dismissed his music career as a mere hobby, unworthy of serious pursuit. Dada KD believes it wasn’t until international stars like Michael Jackson helped reshape the global view of music as a lucrative career path that attitudes began to change.

Despite this evolution, Dada KD emphasized that the music industry in Ghana continues to suffer from systemic issues, particularly when it comes to how artists are compensated for their creative contributions.

He firmly believes that music should be regarded as a skilled profession that can provide financial stability, allowing artists to enjoy long-term success and accumulate wealth.
