DJ Ashmen’s Independence Mixtape Lands Him Major Nomination at 2025 DJ Awards

DJ Ashmen’s Ghana Independence Mixtape, released in March, has earned him a nomination in the Mixtape of the Year category at the 2025 Guinness Ghana DJ Awards. His work stands among top projects submitted this year, placing him in contention with respected DJs including DJ Millzy & El Chapo with Pine & Jinja 008, DJ Lord OTB with 23rd June Mix, and DJ Sonatty’s December Heat featuring HypeGad 2gar.

Other nominees featured in the same category are Sage Party Vibes 2 by DJ Khalifa & MCee Nice, DJ Vyrusky’s 2k25 Afro Muse, DJ Spincho’s Trap & Vibes, Cups & Bass (Aboten) by DJ Loft & Kojo Manuel, and the collaborative project Snatch & Grind by DJ Cyril and Darren Flex.

With more than twenty years shaping Ghana’s music scene, DJ Ashmen has become a respected figure for preserving Ghana’s distinctive sound. His work has consistently highlighted the cultural significance of Highlife and Hiplife while promoting their relevance in modern music.

The Guinness Ghana DJ Awards remains one of the biggest annual celebrations honoring DJs across Ghana and abroad. This year’s ceremony, themed “Shake the floor,” will take place on Saturday, November 29 at the Palms Convention Centre, La Palm Royal Beach.

DJ Sly King leads the event’s nomination list with eight categories, including DJ of the Year and Best Mobile DJ, while the current DJ of the Year, DJ Lord OTB, has secured seven nominations.

The 2025 edition features 32 categories in total, alongside three honorary awards recognizing outstanding contributions to the music industry. This year’s honorary recipients include Doreen Andoh, who receives the Lifetime Achievement Award; Frank Kwakye, honored with the Master of Production Award; and Mr. Kofi Amoakohene, celebrated with the Culture Enabler Award.

The ceremony once again aims to shine a spotlight on the talents driving Ghana’s vibrant DJ culture.
