Doctor Amuzu, popularly known as the “Penis Doctor,” has stirred controversy on social media with remarks about Ghana’s current economic situation. Taking to Facebook, he expressed dissatisfaction with the country’s minimum wage of 19.8 Cedis, arguing that the amount is inadequate for basic daily expenses.
According to Dr. Amuzu, the minimum wage cannot even cover the cost of breakfast at Tafo Nhyiaeso, highlighting what he believes is a clear disconnect between earnings and living costs in Ghana. His comment quickly gained traction online, drawing reactions from various users who shared their own frustrations with the nation’s economic challenges.
While some supported his viewpoint, describing the minimum wage as unrealistic given rising costs, others questioned whether his public platform was the appropriate place for such commentary. Regardless of the mixed reactions, Dr. Amuzu’s statement has reignited conversations about wage policies and the high cost of living in Ghana.
The discussion continues as Ghanaians debate whether the current minimum wage reflects the realities of daily life, with many calling for policymakers to reassess the standard in line with economic demands.
The National Tripartite Committee (NTC) announced a 10 per cent increase in Ghana’s National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW) for 2025, bringing the new rate to GH₵19.97. The decision was reached at a meeting held in Accra on Thursday, 20th February 2025.
