The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately suspend Sammy Gyamfi from his position as Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), citing a need for a thorough and independent investigation into his recent conduct.
The call comes after a video surfaced online on Saturday, May 10, 2025, showing Sammy Gyamfi handing bundles of U.S. dollars to evangelist Nana Agradaa from the comfort of his luxurious Range Rover. The footage, which quickly spread across social media platforms, has stirred widespread public concern and raised questions about accountability and transparency in public office.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing on Tuesday, May 13, the NPP’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, urged the president to take immediate action, insisting that suspending Gyamfi is necessary to protect the integrity of any investigation.
Boakye drew comparisons to the case of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah, who stepped aside during President Akufo-Addo’s tenure after revelations of large sums of cash stolen from her residence. He emphasized that although Dapaah came from a respected background and had decades of public service experience, she allowed investigations to proceed without interference.
Boakye noted that the same principles of accountability must now be applied under Mahama’s leadership. He stressed that good governance should be consistent, regardless of which party is in power, and urged Mahama to prove his commitment to fairness and public trust.
The NPP maintains that a swift and transparent response to the situation will send a strong message about leadership ethics and reinforce public confidence in state institutions.
