Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has outlined his vision for Ghana’s development, seeking to advance the country’s progress in various sectors.
During a visit to the Manhyia Palace to seek the blessings of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Dr. Bawumia shared his intentions to transform Ghana’s infrastructure, economy, and governance. Present was the Kumasi Traditional Council.
He highlighted plans to develop an enhanced railway system, linking ports and mining sites, and reduce energy costs by shifting to solar panels. Dr. Bawumia also promised to collaborate with the private sector to reduce government expenditure, implement a flat tax system, and involve chiefs in governance.
Additionally, he pledged to provide digital skills to one million youth and review Section 63 (d) of the Chieftaincy Act.
The Asantehene urged Dr. Bawumia to remain humble and respectful, advising him to make realistic promises and acknowledge the shortcomings of his government.
The Kontire Division, Oyoko Division, and Nkosuo Division of the Kumasi Traditional Council also offered their support and guidance, promising to hold him accountable for his promises.
Dr. Bawumia’s vision for Ghana’s development is ambitious, and his commitment to prioritizing the country’s progress over personal interests is evident. With the support of the Asantehene and the chiefs, Dr. Bawumia is poised to lead Ghana into a new era of development.
Dr. Bawumia has secured a historic win in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries, garnering an impressive 61.43% of the votes. This victory sets him up to lead the party in the 2024 General Election, where he will face off against former President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
As the first Muslim from northern Ghana to lead the NPP, Dr. Bawumia breaks new ground in the party’s history. His achievement is further underscored by being the first vice-president to serve two full terms and then ascend to the leadership of the ruling party.
