The Electoral Commission (EC) will today, February 11, convene the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) as part of preparations for the Ayawaso East by-election, scheduled for March 3, 2026. The meeting will take place at the EC’s corporate headquarters in Accra.
The EC stated that the session will focus solely on arrangements and procedures for conducting the by-election, instructing political parties to send no more than two representatives each.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, on January 4, 2026, following a brief illness.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially acclaimed Baba Ali as its parliamentary candidate after consultations and a review of potential candidates who could effectively mobilize support during the limited campaign period.
In the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, Ghana’s High Commissioner, Baba Jamal, emerged as the party’s candidate.
The NDC primary faced calls for annulment amid allegations of vote buying and inducement. A three-member committee investigated the claims and subsequently cleared Baba Jamal to represent the NDC in the upcoming by-election.
