According to John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the economic suffering in Ghana has led to a debate among citizens about whether obtaining a foreign visa or a PhD is more valuable. The former President indicated that this comparison is unnecessary and only highlights the loss of confidence in Ghana’s future.
Mahama noted that that if not for economic suffering, there’s no basis for comparison between a Visa and a PHD.
He attributed the debate to the widespread despair and anguish among citizens due to economic hardship, corruption, and the wastage of national resources by the current government.
The former President emphasized that the country needs leadership that prioritizes truth, honesty, and accountability to restore hope and confidence in the future. He urged citizens to recognize that the current economic hardship is a result of failed leadership and that a change in direction is needed to address the challenges facing the country.
Kofi Gabs, a popular Ghanaian social media personality living in the Netherlands, sparked a heated debate with his comments on the value of educational achievements in Ghana. In a viral video, Gabs claimed that his Dutch passport holds more practical value than a PhD from Ghana.
He shared his personal experience of easily obtaining a visa to visit the United States thanks to his Dutch citizenship. He contrasted this with the often-complicated process faced by Ghanaian passport holders.
