The Trump administration is set to import hundreds of millions of eggs from Turkey and South Korea in a bid to curb skyrocketing prices, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins confirmed.
Discussions are also ongoing with other nations to boost supply.
The move comes amid a severe bird flu epidemic that has led to mass culling of chickens across the U.S., contributing to a 65% surge in egg prices over the past year, with projections indicating a further 41% increase in 2025.
A $1 billion plan has been launched to address the crisis, including biosecurity measures, vaccine research, and financial relief for farmers. The administration is also offering consulting services to egg farms and covering up to 75% of costs to prevent future outbreaks.
Polish and Lithuanian poultry groups revealed that U.S. officials have approached them regarding potential exports. Meanwhile, Trump has blamed high egg prices on his predecessor, Joe Biden, using the issue as a key talking point in his second term.
As efforts to replenish domestic poultry stocks continue, the administration hopes egg prices will stabilize in the coming months.
