A team member of popular Ghanaian gospel artist Empress Gifty Adorye has provided clarification on why she was absent from Nana Ama McBrown’s “Onua Showtime” program, which was scheduled to air on Sunday.
Both McBrown and Empress Gifty had shared promotional materials on social media, creating anticipation for her appearance.
However, when the day arrived, Gifty was notably absent, leading to various rumors and speculation about the reason for her no-show.
Amid circulating rumors suggesting that Empress Gifty’s absence might be linked to her current affiliation with UTV, where she works, her team member, Edem Mensah-Tsotorme, addressed the issue, dismissing any malicious intent.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Edem clarified that Empress Gifty’s inability to appear on the show was due to a family emergency, not any professional conflicts.
Edem explained that after performing at a thanksgiving event for Dr. Osei Kwame Despite’s in-law, Gifty received an urgent call informing her that her daughter, who was away at school, had fallen ill.
This distressing news forced the singer to immediately travel to Akosombo in the Eastern Region to attend to her daughter’s medical needs.
She later had her daughter transferred to Tema for further treatment, which understandably took priority over her scheduled television appearance.
To complicate matters further, Edem shared that during this period, Empress Gifty also lost her phone, making communication difficult.
However, Edem emphasized that Gifty had managed to notify McBrown’s production team about the situation, ensuring that they were aware of the reason for her absence.
Edem concluded by stressing that there is no animosity between Empress Gifty and McBrown, adding that the two remain close friends.
He assured fans that Gifty’s failure to appear on “Onua Showtime” was purely due to unforeseen personal circumstances and not a deliberate act.
