Fatal Collision on Tema-Akosombo Road Leaves Eight Dead, Six Injured

A devastating road accident on the Tema-Akosombo Highway in Ghana’s Eastern Region has claimed eight lives, including a one-month-old baby and the child’s mother.

The collision, which involved a Toyota Hiace minivan and a man diesel truck, left the minivan severely mangled and resulted in the instant deaths of all eight passengers in the van.

According to eyewitness reports, the Toyota Hiace minivan, registered GR 5321-2022, was en route from Kpone to Accra when it encountered a man diesel truck ahead of it.

The truck, registered AS 8054-18 and driven by Fuseini Issa, was travelling from Kpandai to Accra.

In an attempt to overtake the truck, the driver of the minivan crashed into the rear of the larger vehicle.

The impact was so severe that the minivan was reduced to pieces.

Six passengers survived the incident, though it remains unclear whether the minivan’s driver is among them.

Reports indicate that the victims included a new mother and her newborn, highlighting the tragic nature of the crash.

The accident has reignited concerns over the frequency of fatal road crashes in Ghana.

Reckless overtaking, disregard for traffic regulations, and poor road conditions are among the leading contributors to such tragedies, especially on long-distance routes like the Tema-Akosombo Highway.
