Gifty Oware-Mensah, the former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), has been located in Morocco amid an ongoing investigation by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) into a payroll scandal at the NSA.
The investigation revolves around the inclusion of ghost names on the payroll, resulting in significant financial losses to the state.
The NIB had previously launched a manhunt for Oware-Mensah after she became unreachable for several weeks, sparking speculation that she might be evading arrest.
However, recent reports indicate that she is currently in Morocco, accompanying the Black Queens, Ghana’s national women’s football team, in her capacity as chairperson of the team’s management committee.
She is said to be fulfilling her responsibilities aimed at enhancing the team’s performance.
Sources close to Oware-Mensah reveal that she intends to cooperate with the NIB upon her return to Ghana, addressing any questions related to the payroll scandal.
She maintains that she conducted her duties at the NSA with integrity and has no concerns about facing the investigation.
Oware-Mensah’s involvement in Ghanaian football extends beyond the Black Queens. She is a member of the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council, co-owner of Berry Ladies Football Club, and Vice President of Berekum Chelsea.
Her prominent role in sports administration and the timing of the investigation have drawn significant public interest.
As the NIB intensifies efforts to resolve the NSA payroll scandal, the public awaits Oware-Mensah’s return and the outcome of the forthcoming investigations.
