Ghanaian Artists Have to Work Twice as Hard – Stonebwoy Talks About Breaking into the International Market
Stonebwoy recently expressed his deep gratitude for the overwhelming support he received during his U.S. and Canada tour.
Reflecting on his journey in an interview on the Afrobeats Podcast in London, the Ghanaian musician discussed the challenges faced by African artists, particularly from Ghana, when trying to break into global markets.
He shared how the winter tour was his first solo venture of its kind and mentioned the difficulties of getting people to attend shows in cold conditions, especially in the U.S.
Despite the tough weather, Stonebwoy was encouraged by the large turnout and the diverse audience, which included a significant number of Gen Z fans. The positive response made him feel more connected to his audience.
He also spoke about the struggles that Ghanaian artists face when compared to Nigerian musicians, who have already achieved international recognition.
According to Stonebwoy, it takes significant effort and determination for artists from Ghana to gain the same level of global impact, as they must overcome both internal and external obstacles.
Stonebwoy ended by acknowledging the support he has received throughout his career and emphasized his commitment to continuing his efforts to elevate Ghanaian music on the world stage.
