Former Black Stars midfielder Derek Boateng has revealed that some Ghanaian footballers were victims of the Menzgold scam.
According to Boateng, these players invested in Menzgold, but are now unable to come forward due to the disgrace and shame associated with being scammed.
Boateng stated that he was not a victim of Menzgold, crediting divine intervention and his personal principles for avoiding the scam. He also mentioned that the offerings by Menzgold sounded too good to be true, which further deterred him from investing.
The former Fulham midfielder expressed sympathy for his colleagues who fell victim to the scam, acknowledging the financial hardship and emotional distress they are facing. Boateng emphasized that the affected players are reluctant to speak publicly about their ordeal due to fear of being stigmatized.
This revelation highlights the vulnerability of Ghanaian footballers to financial scams and underscores the need for greater education and awareness about investment schemes and financial management within the sports community.
