In a candid interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, Ghanaian rapper Guru, born Maradona Yeboah Adjei, shared the difficulties of balancing his flourishing music career with his ongoing tertiary education.
Despite the challenges, Guru has managed to keep the hits coming, with tracks like “Eye Nwanwa” topping charts and “Bebree” making a significant impact on the music scene.
Guru opened up about the creative process behind his music, explaining that his team draws inspiration directly from the sounds and rhythms of everyday life.
“We tap into what’s happening on the streets—the rhythms, the sounds we hear—and turn those into music,” he shared, emphasizing that while the ideas sometimes come from external sources, they’ve always met the expectations of their audience.
The rapper also addressed speculations about his track “Enkoyie,” featuring Benji, which some listeners believed carried political undertones due to its references to “kakistocracy.”
Guru clarified that while the song touches on broader societal themes, it was never meant to be political. “The song actually centered on relationships, not politics,” he explained, dispelling any misconceptions.
Although Guru has not released a full album in nearly six or seven years, he assured fans that he is still very much active in the music scene.
Instead of working on albums, Guru prefers to release singles when inspiration strikes, ensuring that his music remains fresh and relevant.
