Habiba Sinare, former spouse of Ghanaian footballer Majeed Waris, has addressed backlash after a recent interview where she talked about the difficulties of being in a relationship with men from Northern Ghana.
Her comments, in which she openly stated she would never marry a Northerner again because of her past experiences, have caused a substantial amount of criticism.
During the interview, Habiba talked about the emotional impact her marriage had on her, stating that her ex-husband, Waris, frequently prioritized his family’s needs over their marriage.
This resulted in intense tension and ultimately resulted in the collapse of their marriage.
She remembered a crucial moment when Waris declared that he would prioritize his family over her, causing her to feel forsaken and insignificant in their relationship. She claimed that this realization signaled the termination of her emotional bond with him.
The comments she made have incited a passionate discussion, especially among individuals who believed her opinions stereotyped men from the North.
She received a lot of criticism for what many saw as an unjust depiction of men within her cultural group.
Nevertheless, Habiba has maintained her stance and emphasized that although she is willing to accept criticism, she will not allow any disrespect towards her mother as a response.
Many have joined the debate on cultural expectations and relationships, fueled by her comments.
