How Akuapem Poloo Turned Controversy into Cash

Ghanaian actress and social media personality, Rosemond Alade Brown—popularly known as Akuapem Poloo—has opened up about the daring and controversial decisions that launched her into stardom.

In a candid conversation on Joy Prime, Poloo revealed that before achieving the fame she enjoys today, she spent years struggling to be seen. With little attention and limited opportunities coming her way, she made the bold decision to stir controversy just to get noticed.

According to her, she went as far as paying to be ridiculed online, believing the attention—whether negative or not—would help elevate her visibility. And it did. The publicity, though harsh at times, brought her the exposure she had desperately sought.

She shared that one of the turning points in her hustle came when musician Fameye paid her GH₵5,000 to twerk in one of his music videos. That performance not only earned her a paycheck but pushed her further into the public eye. Poloo explained that after that, other musicians began reaching out to her for similar gigs, where she was paid to dance and appear in promotional content.

Despite facing criticism for her unconventional tactics, she maintains that the strategy worked. The notoriety translated into endorsement deals, interviews, and brand partnerships, including skincare deals that previously felt out of reach.
