The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Council has confirmed Ghana’s Mawuko Afadzinu as Chair of the ITTF Sustainability Committee, reaffirming his growing influence in global table tennis governance and sustainable development.

The news was communicated to table tennis stakeholders by Nathaniel Kwesi Somuah, Head of Communications of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), highlighting another significant milestone for Ghanaian representation on the international stage.

Mr Afadzinu, who remains the only African serving as Chair of an ITTF Permanent Committee, continues to strengthen his place among the sport’s global decision-makers, with his leadership playing a key role in advancing sustainability policies within the federation.

His confirmation comes as the ITTF intensifies its commitment to environmental sustainability, governance reforms and long-term development objectives under its Sustainability Strategy and Planet Game Plan 2030, aimed at reducing carbon emissions, promoting environmental responsibility and strengthening sustainable practices across member associations worldwide.

Mr Afadzinu’s continued stewardship of the Sustainability Committee reflects the confidence reposed in his leadership and vision, having previously guided the committee’s strategic direction in promoting sustainability education, stakeholder engagement and environmental accountability across the global table tennis community.

His position as Chair not only strengthens Africa’s voice in shaping the future of international table tennis administration, but also reflects the continent’s growing contribution to the sport beyond international competition, extending into global governance, policy development and strategic decision-making.

For Ghana, Mr Afadzinu’s confirmation serves as yet another testament to the country’s growing influence within the structures of world table tennis, as the nation continues to contribute beyond competition into governance, policy and international development.

With sustainability becoming an increasingly central pillar of sport worldwide, Mr Afadzinu’s leadership at the ITTF level positions both Ghana and Africa at the forefront of driving meaningful change in table tennis.
