Kennedy Agyapong Explains Why the Cedi Is Gaining Without NDC's Influence

Kennedy Agyapong, former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has cautioned Ghanaians against attributing the recent improvement of the Ghanaian Cedi to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking at an engagement at Central University, the outspoken politician argued that neither of the country’s major political parties has the power to directly influence the performance of the currency against the dollar. According to him, the current appreciation of the Cedi is not the result of any deliberate policy move by the NDC.

He explained that the improved strength of the Cedi is largely due to a drop in demand for the US dollar rather than any political intervention. With lower dollar pressure, the Cedi has naturally gained ground — a trend he believes should not be politicized.

Kennedy Agyapong emphasized that both the NPP and NDC have limited control over the currency’s long-term performance, urging the public to focus on underlying economic realities rather than giving political credit where it isn’t due.
