KNUST Student Stabbed in NPP Clash—Kennedy Agyapong Reacts Swiftly

Tensions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have escalated after Kennedy Agyapong formally stepped away from Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s ongoing “Thank You Tour,” citing safety concerns for his loyalists following a violent altercation.

The decision came in the wake of a disturbing incident during a recent event, where a clash between supporters of the two prominent NPP figures turned bloody. One of Agyapong’s supporters, a student from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was reportedly stabbed—an incident that occurred on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, and was first reported by Angel FM.

Agyapong, visibly disturbed by the attack, revealed that he personally contacted Dr Bawumia to inform him that he would not be participating in the next phase of the tour.

He also made the party’s national executives aware of his withdrawal and voiced his disappointment about the growing hostility within the party’s ranks.

He explained that ensuring the recovery and safety of his injured supporter has become his top priority.

According to him, it’s unacceptable for party members, especially young people who are passionate about the future of the NPP, to be subjected to violence over internal competition.

Calling for urgent intervention, Agyapong urged the party’s leadership to take firm action to stop the infighting before it derails the party’s unity and progress.

He warned that such divisions could damage the NPP’s future prospects, especially with the 2028 elections on the horizon.

As the rivalry between the two leading figures intensifies, fears are mounting among political observers that unresolved tensions could fracture the party.

The NPP has yet to issue a formal statement addressing either the stabbing incident or Kennedy Agyapong’s withdrawal from the tour.
