Popular Ghanaian actor and producer, Kwadwo Nkansah, also known as Lil Win, has launched a scathing attack on local television stations for what he describes as blatant disregard for Ghanaian filmmakers’ intellectual property.
In a video that has been making waves online, Lil Win condemned these broadcasters for allegedly airing Ghanaian productions, including his own, without authorization or compensation.
He did not mince words as he criticized the industry for what he sees as disrespect and neglect towards local creatives.
Beyond copyright concerns, Lil Win drew attention to a larger issue: the heavy preference for foreign content, particularly Asian soap operas.
He pointed to how channels go out of their way to promote imported shows—citing the example of the hit Indian series “Kumkum Bhagya,” which not only dominates screens but also received massive promotional support, including a visit to Ghana by the show’s cast, courtesy of the Multimedia Group.
The actor questioned why similar energy and resources are not channeled into supporting homegrown movies.
According to him, if stations can spend money acquiring foreign dramas, they should be able to do the same for Ghanaian productions.
His message was clear—Ghanaian TV stations must start respecting and investing in the local film industry if they truly want to see it thrive.
