A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to explain her side of a brewing controversy after a man allegedly threatened to disgrace her online for accepting ₦150,000 as transport fare but refusing to honor his request for a visit.
According to her post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the incident began when the man approached her online and expressed interest in seeing her.
After a few exchanges, he reportedly offered to fly her to Abuja and sent ₦150K to cover transportation costs. However, she never made the trip.
The lady clarified that she never actually agreed to visit him, and although she accepted the money, there was no confirmed plan.
She explained that the man is now threatening to publicly embarrass her and accuse her of deception, prompting her to speak out.
“Someone is threatening to drag me over transport fare,” she wrote. “I didn’t even ask him for the money. He offered it and I accepted. I never confirmed I’d be coming. Now he wants to disgrace me because I didn’t show up.”
Her post quickly went viral, igniting a wave of criticism from social media users who accused her of taking advantage of the man.
Some commentators called her out for accepting the money without clear intent to follow through.
Others warned that she could face legal consequences, advising her to return the money to avoid escalation.
One user wrote, “You should have declined the money if you had no intention of going. This is exactly how people get themselves into trouble.” Another added, “This kind of behavior is why people don’t trust anymore. If you collected the money, at least communicate clearly.”
While a few defended her right to change her mind, the majority urged her to refund the cash to avoid further embarrassment or possible legal action.
The situation has sparked broader conversations about boundaries, transactional expectations in modern relationships, and the legal and moral responsibilities tied to unsolicited financial gifts.
