A Nigerian woman, identified as Mrs. Akindoju, has opened up about her life raising four children with special needs, sharing emotional details about their development and the challenges she has faced over the years.
In a video circulating online, Mrs. Akindoju revealed that her concerns began shortly after the birth of her first child.
She noticed unusual behaviors and flagged them to a medical practitioner, but it wasn’t until years later that the full extent of their conditions became clearer.
Despite medical advice and tests during her second pregnancy, she went on to have more children — three of whom also showed similar developmental issues.
One of the most heartbreaking parts of her story is that all four children, now aged 31, 29, 26, and 19, still display childlike behaviors and need consistent care and attention.
“After about two to three years, I discovered that the response they give is not so normal. It is then I started running to know what to do,” she said.
In the video, the children can be seen behaving much younger than their actual ages, highlighting the depth of their developmental challenges.
She noted that her younger daughter’s twin, who is currently in tertiary education, did not develop any medical conditions and is considered medically stable.
Mrs. Akindoju’s emotional story has triggered widespread sympathy online.
Many social media users have been moved by her resilience and selflessness, with several offering to provide financial assistance and support.
Her story has also reignited discussions about access to healthcare, support systems for families with special needs, and the importance of early intervention and awareness in Nigeria.
