A Yutong bus carrying 34 passengers burst into flames on Thursday, May 29, 2025, while traveling along the Accra–Mankessim highway near Gomoa Antseadze in Ghana’s Central Region. The vehicle, registered as GT 4346-16, was headed from Accra to Bogoso when the terrifying incident occurred mid-journey.
Passengers were thrown into panic as the fire started unexpectedly. Fortunately, everyone on board was able to exit the bus in time, escaping what could have been a deadly disaster. Though shaken, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived at the scene swiftly after being alerted. By the time they reached the location, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames. The fire crew acted fast, bringing the fire under control and preventing it from completely consuming the entire bus.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, the damage was significant. Several personal belongings were destroyed, including food items, cosmetics, bales of second-hand clothing, and artificial hair. Many of the affected passengers were left devastated by the loss of their goods.
Despite the destruction, firefighters managed to salvage some items before the fire could spread further. Some cosmetic products, food supplies, and artificial hair were recovered, and the bus itself was partially saved from total ruin.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about vehicle safety, especially on Ghana’s highways. Authorities have begun investigations to determine the source of the fire, while the Ghana National Fire Service is urging vehicle owners to conduct regular maintenance checks to prevent similar incidents in the future.
