New evidence has come to light in the case of a Sowutuom-based musician, Nana Yaw (also known as Wyllbee), who was lynched in Kumasi on July 5, 2024. The husband of the alleged girlfriend, Kingsley, has revealed that the musician was not a lover but an armed robber who attempted to break into their family home.
According to Kingsley, the deceased attempted to forcefully enter their residence, wielding a stone and threatening to harm his wife, mother, and child. The family’s cries for help alerted neighbors, who apprehended the musician and subsequently lynched him.
Kingsley’s account contradicts initial reports of a romantic affair gone wrong. The revelation has shocked the music industry and the public, as many had sympathized with the musician’s alleged fate.
The police are investigating the incident, and this new information may change the course of their inquiry.
Last week, tragic news emerged from Tanoso in the Ashanti Region, where promising young artist Wyllbee lost his life under disturbing circumstances. The musician had visited his girlfriend’s home, unaware that this innocent visit would lead to fatal consequences.
As Wyllbee departed his girlfriend’s residence at dawn, a tragic misunderstanding ensued. Mistakenly identified as a thief by a misled and angered mob, he pleaded desperately with his girlfriend to verify his identity. Heartbreakingly, she denied knowing him, allegedly to protect her marriage to a Ghanaian-based Brazilian.
Fuelled by this erroneous belief, furious residents subjected Wyllbee to a merciless beating, which tragically led to his death.
