Bright Ofori-Ampofo, Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Wilfred Kwaku Boateng—also known as Kade Boateng—the Eastern Regional Deputy Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The case, lodged through lawyer George Afful of Appiade Chambers on September 3, 2025, claims that Boateng made damaging statements about Ofori-Ampofo and his wife during a broadcast on TV XYZ.

The legal filing reproduces a transcript of Boateng’s comments, in which he allegedly accused the NPP chairman of collaborating with his wife, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo—president of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA)—to undermine the government amid the June strike by the GRNMA.

The writ argues that Boateng’s statements suggested the couple conspired to harm the ruling administration and foment discontent toward the NDC, resulting in reputational damage, public embarrassment, and distress for Ofori-Ampofo. The suit stresses that contrary to Boateng’s claim, the two parties have no personal relationship and have never met.

After failed attempts to secure a retraction and apology, Ofori-Ampofo is seeking GH¢5,000,000 in aggravated and exemplary damages. The lawsuit names both Kade Boateng and XYZ Broadcasting Limited, the operators of TV XYZ, as defendants.

Additional remedies requested include a formal declaration that the statements were defamatory, a court order requiring a public retraction and apology, coverage of legal costs, and any other relief the court deems appropriate.
