Highlife star Ofori Amponsah has publicly disputed claims from veteran producer Fred Kyei Mensah, also known as Fredima, regarding who introduced him to the late Daddy Lumba.
Ofori clarified that while Fredima assisted in producing his demo, it was Ofori himself who personally delivered the recordings to Daddy Lumba in search of a producer. He emphasized that he did not visit Lumba’s residence with Fredima, countering the producer’s assertions.
The singer explained that after presenting his demo independently, Daddy Lumba reviewed it and expressed interest in working with him. Ofori added that this was the beginning of his professional relationship with the Highlife legend.
Interestingly, Ofori also mentioned that he later played a role in introducing Fredima to Daddy Lumba, alongside singer Selina Orleans, when Lumba showed interest in recording a gospel project.
Despite the disagreement, Ofori acknowledged Fredima’s contribution to developing his early career but maintained that his own introduction to Daddy Lumba was a solo effort. The differing accounts have reignited discussions among fans about the true story behind Ofori Amponsah’s breakthrough in the Highlife music scene.
