The Parliament of Ghana has confirmed the arrest of the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North in the Ashanti Region, Mr Ohene Kwame Frimpong, in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
In a statement issued by the Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, and shared on the official social media platforms of Parliament, it was disclosed that the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, has been briefed on the incident.
According to the statement, Mr Frimpong was detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.
Parliament further indicated that the leadership of the House is currently engaging Ghana’s Mission in The Hague to gather detailed information regarding the matter.
“It has come to the attention of Parliament that the Hon Member for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam, in the Netherlands,” the statement said.
It added that the public would be updated appropriately as more information becomes available.
