Political Links to ‘Makoma’ May Have Led to TGMA Disqualification

Ghanaian entertainment pundit Ziga has raised concerns over the possible political influence behind the disqualification of King Paluta’s hit song, Makoma, from the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

During an appearance on United Showbiz on United Television (UTV) on Saturday, March 29, Ziga pointed out that the song’s use by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) might have played a role in its exclusion from the nominations.

Despite Makoma being one of the most popular songs of the past year, it failed to secure any nominations at the prestigious awards event.

The TGMA Board has not officially commented on the matter, but it is widely speculated that a particular lyric, deemed inappropriate, was the reason for its disqualification.

Ziga, however, believes the board’s lack of transparency is fueling further speculation. He argued that the possibility of political interference should not be dismissed, as the song’s association with the former ruling party could have influenced the decision.

He urged the TGMA Board to release an official statement addressing the controversy to clear the air and put an end to the ongoing debate.
