A man in Port Harcourt is demanding accountability after the heartbreaking death of his pregnant wife, Victoria Paris, during childbirth.
The woman, who was reportedly seven months pregnant, died at a maternity clinic following complications that required a blood transfusion — a procedure her doctor allegedly refused to perform due to religious reasons.
The grieving husband, Chris Adams, shared the devastating news online, recounting how Victoria was rushed to Standard Maternity Clinic located in the Borokiri Church Hill area after complaining of severe abdominal pain.
The clinic had successfully handled the births of their previous children, but this time, events took a tragic turn.
Medical staff carried out a Caesarean section, which reportedly went well initially. However, Victoria lost a significant amount of blood during the procedure and urgently needed a transfusion.
According to Adams, the attending doctor, believed to be a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, declined to administer the life-saving transfusion, citing personal religious restrictions.
Adding to the disturbing details, Adams claimed that the clinic experienced a power outage during the surgery, forcing staff to rush and switch to a generator mid-operation. He believes these factors contributed to his wife’s untimely death.
He further alleged that the family was not fully informed about the extent of the risks involved in the surgery and felt deceived into giving consent.
Adams is now calling for justice and holding the clinic and the doctor responsible for the loss of his wife, attributing her death to what he describes as preventable medical negligence and misplaced religious priorities.
