Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei has come under fire following a controversial social media post perceived as a jab at the current NDC administration.
The post, which appeared to mock the government’s performance, triggered strong reactions from social media users, leading the actor to swiftly claim his comments were meant as a joke.
In the post, Osei sarcastically questioned whether Ghanaians were enjoying the Mahama administration, referencing “milk and honey” and uninterrupted electricity.
Many interpreted the comments as criticism of the government, particularly given Osei’s known affiliation with the opposition party.
The backlash was swift, with several users accusing him of attacking the government because of his party’s loss in the 2024 elections. In an apparent attempt to douse the flames, Osei followed up with another post, stating that his comments were only intended to be humorous and urging critics to lighten up.
Despite his clarification, scepticism remains high. Many believe Osei’s backtracking was an attempt to avoid further criticism after realising the intensity of the backlash.
The incident has reignited discussions about the responsibilities of public figures when commenting on sensitive political matters, especially in a politically polarised environment like Ghana’s.
