Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of the Asante Kingdom, has publicly affirmed that Nana Kwaku Ware III, the newly enstooled chief of Antoa, is a legitimate royal. The confirmation came during a Kumasi Traditional Council meeting on 24 February 2025, where the chief swore an oath of allegiance.
The Monarch’s declaration dispelled lingering doubts regarding the chief’s royal lineage.
The Asantehene disclosed that he personally investigated the family background of Nana Kwaku Ware III to settle the rumours surrounding his enstoolment.
After a thorough examination, he concluded that the new Antoahene is indeed a true royal entitled to occupy the Antoa Stool. The King remarked that the probe was necessary to clear all uncertainties about the new chief’s legitimacy.
Despite affirming the chief’s legitimacy, Otumfuo issued a stern caution regarding the preservation of the stool’s dignity.
The Monarch referenced allegations of improper conduct involving adultery and relations with two sisters, warning the chief that any such misstep would result in destoolment. The warning underscored Otumfuo’s commitment to upholding the integrity of traditional leadership.
The Asantehene further instructed Nana Kwaku Ware III to address longstanding disputes surrounding claims to the Antoa Stool. Otumfuo noted that multiple groups, including the descendants of Nkansa Boansi and Konadu Sinpinimu, assert rights to the stool. He observed that these issues had been neglected for years, with apparent attempts to conceal them.
The King emphasised the need for transparency and resolution, urging the chief to conduct a comprehensive review of all claims. “Many things are in disarray in the town. Let all the issues come to light so we can identify the rightful royals and bring clarity to the chieftaincy structure,” Otumfuo directed.
This directive is expected to bring clarity and unity to Antoa by establishing the legitimate royal gates. The Asantehene’s insistence on accountability highlights his dedication to preserving the traditions and values of Asanteman.
