Tax the Rich, Not Ordinary Ghanaians

Published:

Asante Akyem North Member of Parliament, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, has voiced strong support for taxing the mining and insurance industries instead of increasing taxes on ordinary Ghanaians. Frimpong’s position aims to alleviate the financial strain on everyday citizens who may already be facing economic hardships.

Frimpong’s suggestion comes as part of his broader focus on economic growth and job creation in his constituency. Earlier reports indicated his commitment to creating more than 2,000 jobs through initiatives like the establishment of factories within Asante Akyem North.

By tapping into the wealthier sectors like mining and insurance, the government could generate essential revenue without imposing additional burdens on the average Ghanaian.

The MP’s proposal reflects his concern for vulnerable groups who could be further disadvantaged by higher taxes. He argues that directing taxes towards industries that are more capable of shouldering the burden could provide the government with the necessary funds while reducing financial hardship for the general populace.
