The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has disclosed that two separate investigations are underway into the recent fire outbreak at Akosombo that created a power distribution gap of over 1,000 megawatts.

At a press briefing on April 27, 2026, he said the first probe is being conducted by a technical team he constituted.

The seven-member team, chaired by Ing. William Amuna, comprises representatives from the Energy Commission, National Security, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the Ghana National Fire Service, the Volta River Authority (VRA), and GRIDCo.

He has charged the team with conducting an impartial and thorough investigation and submitting its report within 14 days.

The second probe is being carried out by security agencies to determine whether there was any foul play.

“I’m aware that the security agencies are also conducting a parallel investigation looking into possible culpability and criminality, and we will be waiting for their findings,” the Minister said.

The Minister used the occasion to assure Ghanaians that normalcy would be restored within the shortest possible time.
