Executives of the National Democratic Congress in the Tema Central Constituency have locked up the offices of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), protesting what they describe as unfair and exclusionary appointment processes.
The action, led by Constituency Chairman Benjamin Ims Djakumah, follows growing dissatisfaction over recent appointments to the NHIS and other public positions within the constituency.
According to the executives, the appointments were made without consultation and ignored several qualified party members within Tema Central.
Chairman Djakumah says the leadership is deeply unhappy with what he terms a pattern of sidelining grassroots executives who worked tirelessly for the party’s success.
Backing the protest, Constituency Secretary, Henry Davidson Ayeh, says the executives feel taken for granted despite their commitment and loyalty to the party.
Meanwhile, Constituency Organizer, Abdul Razak Mohammed Mutakwil, insists the sacrifices made by party faithful in Tema Central must be recognised, warning that years of hard work cannot be allowed to go down the drain.
