Ghanaian comic actor Dr. Likee has opened up about the motivation behind his well-known generosity, especially toward struggling young people and those who live on the streets.
In a conversation captured on video with veteran actor and television host Akrobeto, Dr. Likee reflected on the struggles that shaped his life and the people who stood by him when the world turned its back. He admitted that he once lived through very dark times, surviving off alms and carrying the heavy burden of damaging rumors that painted him as a drug addict and troublemaker.
Despite these challenges, Akrobeto became one of the few individuals who believed in his potential. Likee acknowledged that the mentorship, guidance, and support he received from the veteran transformed his life and gave him the strength to rise above his difficult beginnings. Without that intervention, he admitted, he might never have become the figure that audiences celebrate today.
It is those bitter memories of life on the street, coupled with the kindness he once received, that now fuel Dr. Likee’s desire to help others. He explained that every time he encounters someone in desperate circumstances, he sees his own past reflected in their situation. This connection drives him to pick people from the ghettos and provide them with opportunities to change their lives, just as he was once given a chance to rebuild his own.
Over the years, Dr. Likee has supported several young men and women from disadvantaged backgrounds, nurturing them into better versions of themselves. For him, this cycle of giving is both a repayment of the debt he owes those who helped him and a mission to ensure that others do not remain trapped in the same hopelessness he once endured.
Dr. Likee’s story is a reminder that personal struggles can sometimes create the strongest motivation for kindness, and that one act of faith from a mentor can spark a lifetime of positive change.
