A Nigerian man has opened up about a painful experience where he lost over ₦500,000 to a woman who scammed him with a fake pregnancy story.
The man, who prefers to remain anonymous, recounts how he met the woman in Ibadan during a business trip in 2017, a meeting that would spiral into a series of deceit and financial loss.
According to the man, the relationship began casually after meeting the woman at a club, where she was openly flirting with him.
After several weeks of casual meetings, things escalated, and the woman claimed she was pregnant. Despite being in Abuja at the time, he started sending money for her upkeep, antenatal care, and even her supposed cesarean section delivery, totaling over ₦500,000.
Months later, when the man returned to Ibadan, he was eager to meet his alleged twins, only to discover there were no babies.
After conducting his own investigation, he found that the woman had been running a scam targeting men with fake pregnancy stories, collecting money from them and leaving them heartbroken.
Despite catching her in the act, the man ended up bailing her out after being pressured by the authorities.
This ordeal nearly ruined his relationship in 2020 when his now-wife discovered the texts exchanged with the woman.
